If you are in a position of leadership, you probably have
moments of frustration when those you are leading don’t seem to be doing a
great job following. If you are in a position where you are being led, I’m sure
you feel at times as though your boss, manager, pastor, coach, etc. isn’t
leading or mentoring you the way you’d like. If you are like most people, you
are feeling both frustrations in different areas of your life. You are probably
struggling to lead in some facets and trying to follow in others.
In either case, the question we must each ask of ourselves
is this: Am I effectively leading myself? Unless you are leading yourself well,
you can’t possibly lead others or be led effectively. There will always be bad bosses,
disobedient kids, disgruntled reports and whiny co-workers, but unless you are
first leading yourself, the rest is just commentary.
